Curaçao Is A Tropical Amsterdam

 Someone should inform Rancid.
A few months ago I journeyed to the land of Rastafarians and retirees as a celebration for graduating University. I've spent most of my life with the belief that hot and humid places are not fit for human (my) survival, so I don't know why I thought a Caribbean cruise would be the best way to commemorate kicking academia's ass.

It must have been that dark time during exam week spent procrastinating on budgettravel.com while hopped-up on 5 Hour Energies...

Curaçao is a beautiful island located off the northern tip of Venezuela. In case you didn't have jet lag already, arriving there from America looks like you just dropped anchor in an Amsterdam canal. Personally, I love that this isle obeyed its Dutch mother to erect a waterfront à la crayola. (See first image)
I have studied Olaudah Equiano's work in great detail, so the replica slave ship installed at the Kura Hulanda Museum left me truly haunted. This picture depicts the museum's courtyard constructed to reflect features of the Malian urban landscape.
Curaçao is also home to the oldest Synagogue in continuous use in the Western Hemisphere, which was an unexpected find. As was the fact that it's painted bright yellow.
The Willemstad Floating Market is a fascinating gaggle of vendors. Produce is sold off of small boats used to transport the goods from Venezuela every day. That's over 140 miles, people! Amazeballs. As with most food markets, arrive early to get the freshest pick.
Would I travel to Curacao again? Yes. Not going to lie, I casually pretended (in my head of course) that I was a celebrity upon discovering Emily's season of The Bachelorette had filmed there.

Have you ever traveled to the Caribbean?

Curaçao sounds fantastic for a next trip to America!
